Elton Battles To Save Marriage

Posh and Becks are getting crisis marriage counselling from Elton John - locked away at his French Riviera palace. The gay pop legend, a close pal, is battling to bring the couple together after their fifth anniversary getaway to Morocco exploded into a series of disagreements. A source said: "Elton is acting as a marriage guidance advisor. They respect his judgment and advice. He's a great listener and isn't taking sides. He is by far the best person for the job because there is a real bond between him and the Beckhams. He knows them better than practically anyone." Elton, 57, invited the couple to hide away for a week at his palatial hilltop home at Mont Boron, near Nice, after they spent a disastrous holiday in Morocco bickering. Our source added: "He knows they are going through the most testing time of their relationship and offered them the ideal surroundings to get back together. His house is like a fortress and it will be their little oasis where they can get away from all their troubles." The pair have stayed before at the seven-bedroom holiday home when their old friend wasn't there. But this time the singer thinks that Victoria, 30, and David, 29, are less likely to row if he and his partner David Furnish are present. The source said: "Victoria is very close to David Furnish so she and Becks each have someone to confide in." Elton also has an insight into marriage problems. He wed Renate Blauel in 1984 but they split up four years later and the star declared he was gay. "He has been through it all himself" said the source. The Beckhams' five-year marriage was rocked by revelations of the England captain's fling with his sexy former PA Rebecca Loos. And the rows with his former Spice Girl wife got worse as his loss of form on the pitch added to the stress. But Elton's soothing influence seemed to be working yesterday. He joined Becks, who was calling for sons Brooklyn and Romeo to come in from the garden for lunch on the terrace. Both men were heard shouting: "Buster (the Beckhams' nickname for Brooklyn), and Romeo, time to come inside now." A close pal of Posh and Becks said: "It's important for them to spend some time with the children - they are what is keeping them together most at the moment. They both dote on their boys and wouldn't do anything to hurt them." The Beckhams have their own holiday home at Bergamon, a short drive away. But it is being renovated so they jumped at the chance to stay at Elton's white-painted mansion in its three acres of grounds with a tennis court. The star's staff are on hand to cater for their every whim. A neighbour said: "The Beckhams haven't ventured out at all. They seem to stay at the house all day, sometimes sitting by the pool. Nobody has heard of them even going out to a restaurant for an evening." Close friends are praying that the Riviera break works. One pal said: "Their trip to Morocco ended up being a source of more disagreement. When when they got back home to Beckingham Palace they realised they were in need of another holiday. If there was a disagreement it often escalated and Victoria would mention Rebecca Loos. Then it became a full-blown row. And because David is down about his poor performance on the pitch he is less patient and more tetchy and so any provocation sets him off. In the past David would be much less confrontational and if his wife annoyed him he would just walk away and say nothing but now he will start bickering with her." Now Elton hopes to get the marriage back on an even keel.

Parents at war

The mothers of Posh and Becks are now at war as the couple's marriage plunges deeper into crisis, the News of the World can reveal. Sandra Beckham blasted Jackie Adams in a bitter, dramatic phone call, accusing her of meddling in the rocky relationship. "She told Jackie in no uncertain terms to stay out of David's life and yelled, ‘You're always sticking your nose in!" a family friend told us. The mums' astonishing bust-up has erupted as the Beckhams' problems continue to escalate dangerously in the wake of the Rebecca Loos storm. The couple were last night on holiday with sons Brooklyn and Romeo at Elton John's mansion in the South of France after a week arguing in Morocco. "Elton has been in constant touch with them both since Euro 2004 and is worried about David" revealed a source close to the couple. "He invited them to stay as long as they want." Today we reveal how depressed Becks has: Rejected Posh's plea to have another baby which she thinks will save their marriage. Accused her of controlling his life during a series of blazing bust-ups on their "romantic" break in Marrakesh. Infuriated Posh by making a joke about his famous text messages before millions in a spoof interview for BBC Sport Relief screened last night. Confessed to pals that he believes Real Madrid don't want him any more because of his troubled private life. Becks is so down friends say he now believes Alex Ferguson was right about his showbiz life wrecking his football career. But it is the star's relationship with his wife that is causing him most concern. "They're not touchy-feely and they hardly speak to each other in private any more—when they do it's usually the start of a row" said a friend. "But their mums getting involved has just made everything worse." Sandra Beckham has been increasingly concerned about her son since revelations of his Madrid affairs and his poor form at Euro 2004. She blames Posh's mum Jackie for being behind rumours that the troubled England captain had turned to telly hypnotist Paul McKenna for help. And when Jackie, 56, rang a radio talk show to comment on Posh and Becks' marriage it was the last straw, said the friend. "Sandra is very level-headed and normally very mild-mannered, but she felt she had to speak out for the sake of her son. She told Jackie to stop interfering with David and Victoria. Her words were along the lines of, ‘I can't believe you're going around ringing radio shows! What on earth makes you do things like that? You're always sticking your nose in!' If anything their mums arguing has put even more strain on their marriage. They have planned an anniversary party and are now going to have to make sure they keep their mothers apart. They're thinking if one comes earlier than the other, which will be probably be Sandra, she can leave early." Sandra, 48, has become Becks' sole confidante as his despair grows over his marriage. The crisis deepened in a series of furious rows with Posh during their holiday in Marrakesh last week. A showbiz insider told us: "Posh brought up the subject of babies. She wants them to try for a daughter because she thinks it will bring them back together. But David put his foot down and said no. He thinks the worst way to try to repair a marriage is with a new baby. It's caused a lot of tension. David wants to make the decisions and that she must stop wearing the trousers. He's fed up with her bossing him around and controlling everything. He says the gulf between them has widened and Victoria's attempts to pull them back together don't feel right. They just keep arguing all the time and their physical relationship isn't great because they're both so angry with each other." It is the wounds of Beckham's affair with his PA Rebecca Loos that still lie deep at the heart of their problems. When Becks told Posh he'd made a text sex gag on a BBC Sport Relief interview—shown last night—the 30-year-old singer exploded with fury and hurled her mobile phone at him. A friend said: "She snarled at him, ‘Haven't I been through enough. This is no joking matter'." Then she said later, "How could he do something like that to me? It is such an insult. I've had my nose rubbed in it over this Rebecca thing far too long." In the sketch with Fast Show character Ron Manager—played by Paul Whitehouse—Becks interrupts the interview to receive a text, saying ‘Sorry Ron—another message' to gales of laughter from the audience. But the way Becks' career has slid down with his marriage is no joke for the 29-year-old star. He fears his image has taken a battering and that his days at Real Madrid might be numbered. And Beckham has reluctantly admitted that Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson, who sold him to Real last year after falling out with him and Posh, was talking sense all along. A source close to Beckham revealed: "Becks feel everything he's worked for is disappearing. He says Alex Ferguson is having the last laugh. He now believes Fergie was right about his life spinning out of control and losing touch with football. He keeps saying Real Madrid don't want him and admitted various problems have left him unable to focus on his game. Becks is putting on a brave face but he has said, ‘I feel s***. I'm feeling defeated. I haven't felt like this ever before. I can't get Victoria to understand what's going on. She keeps telling me to snap out of it and smile.'" Meanwhile Posh is said by a friend to be "alarmed" at the gulf between them. "It's like they've reached mutual exhaustion" said the pal. "All they know best is how to face the media." A spokesman for the couple last night said: "David and Victoria are very happily married and they are enjoying a relaxing private holiday."

Posh's £25k Kesh & Carry

Posh Spice has splashed out £25,000 on antiques, furniture and carpets from a shop in Marrakesh. She and hubby David launched the amazing spree at a store billed as an “Aladdin’s Cave” of African artefacts on their holiday in Morocco. They snapped up the giant haul for their Beckingham Palace home during two hours of shopping. Store owner Abdul Khalid then joined them at their £1,500-a-night villa on the outskirts of Marrakesh to discuss shipping their treasure trove home to Sawbridgeworth, Herts. An insider said Victoria, 30, was bowled over by the shop — in the city’s bustling souk district. He said: “She was enchanted by everything she saw. Victoria and David were like two modern-day Ali Babas. I’m sure they would have cleared out the whole store if they could have.” Posh and Real Madrid ace Becks, 29, who earns £11million a year, also bought a string of vases, urns and other traditional trinkets. The couple had toured the city’s Medina district at the weekend. They marvelled at craftsmen carving wood and shaping metal into Marrakesh mementos. The Beckhams are due to return to the UK for a few days on Saturday before Becks begins training for the new season in Spain.

Victoria talked David out of retiring

David Beckham was so devastated by his Euro 2004 penalty miss he told wife Posh: “I’m retiring.” The England captain held his head in his hands after he fluffed his spot-kick in the shootout defeat to Portugal in the quarter-final. And Becks, 29, told Victoria: “I can’t go on. I’m retiring. I’m finished.” A source close to the couple said: “David was deadly serious. He told Victoria he wanted to retire from football because he felt so low. He said to her there was no point carrying on playing after his poor performance. But Victoria was amazing. She led him back to their hotel suite and had a heart-to-heart with him. Thankfully she managed to change his mind. David is very stubborn when he makes a decision and he just felt so depressed he couldn’t see any way out. Victoria has been a tower of strength. She told him he’d been through worse when he was sent off against Argentina at the World Cup in 1998. She said ‘David, you are the England captain and I’m proud of you. You go back out there and show people what you are made of’.

Beckhams' to renew vows today

David and Victoria Beckham will renew their marriage vows today on their fifth wedding anniversary. The Sunday Mirror can exclusively reveal how Britain’s most famous couple will recommit to their marriage this afternoon during an intimate religious ceremony at a luxury resort in Morocco. They have just begun a secret two-week break in the North African paradise following England’s defeat in the Euro 2004 soccer tournament. David and Victoria hope renewing their vows will put their troubled marriage back on track. It has been rocked to the core following claims of Becks’ adultery and a series of bitter rows. They have even cancelled a promotion tour to launch “Brand Beckham” in America in favour of the make-or-break holiday. The couple have asked a local minister to bless their marriage today in a concerted effort to put their woes behind them once and for all. They have chosen today because it is exactly five years since the lavish wedding in Ireland – on “his and hers” thrones – that made them Britain’s alternative royal family. A close friend of the couple revealed last night: “They believe the best way to heal the rifts are to be alone and together in paradise. What better way to celebrate their wedding anniversary than by renewing their wedding vows.” Posh and Becks secretly jetted out to the exclusive Amanjena resort on the outskirts of Marrakesh on Thursday. They arrived at the hotel with a security guard who is staying in the next-door apartment to them. Even before arriving at the idyllic venue they had asked hotel bosses to make sure a priest would be available today. A hotel source revealed: “It was a special instruction. They wanted to know if our papa (the Moroccan term for priest) was available on Sunday, and we duly booked him.” Staff were then told to prepare for a traditional Christian ceremony in the lavish grounds of the hotel. On Friday David and Victoria were seen walking hand-in-hand through the hotel’s grounds. Then yesterday they left the hotel in a blacked-out limousine. It was then that David – known for his trendsetting fashion sense – revealed a huge surprise. He stepped out of the limo into the burning heat dressed in a jellaba – a traditional desert garment of a long white gown and all-over white headscarf that covered everything but his eyes. He even wore a grey scarf around his neck to cover his large new tattoo. “He looked more like Lawrence of Arabia than a famous football player” said one onlooker. “Maybe he should be renamed David of Arabia.” Victoria was happy to wander the market, which is crammed with street sellers, spice stalls and snake-charmers, in a black skirt and small vest top plus her trademark dark sunglasses. The couple spent half an hour in Khalid’s Art Gallery where they bought several hundred pounds worth of Moroccan antiques. Store owner Mr. Khalid said: “It was good to see Beckham in here – we have many famous visitors.” The pair then wandered into a nearby courtyard called Caravan Siri, where local craftsmen worked on different handmade items. They bartered for a giant wrought-iron lantern costing 1,000 dirham (£60). The pair, flanked by a minder and a guide, then went into the heart of the crowded market, wandering from stall to stall looking at the clothing and leather items. They even looked at a sports stall selling replica football shirts of Moroccan players. The couple’s guide – who recently escorted Beckham’s Real Madrid team- mate Raul through the ancient city – described the history of the old city and took them into courtyards selling traditional paintings and leather footwear. Western tourists visiting Marrakesh failed to recognise the famous pair as they shopped. But after more than an hour in the labyrinth of shops and narrow streets, local children began to crowd round. As word spread they were mobbed by local people as their chauffeur whisked them away from the market at around 12.30pm, when the temperature had soared to 44ºC. One bystander: “We didn’t recognise Beckham because he was wearing white robes. You could only see his eyes but my friend spotted his wife and that’s when everyone went, ‘Ah, Beckham!’ ” Later the couple returned to their hotel to prepare for their big day – but Posh went to the market again without David in the early evening. The couple, who have left sons Brooklyn and Romeo behind, are staying in an exclusive maison at the hotel – the most luxurious villa available – with private swimming pool and garden. A close friend said: “David and Victoria may be the world’s most famous couple but they are real people and they have been through the mill. There has been the whole Rebecca Loos thing and being apart for so long since David went to Spain. Then there was Euro 2004 and all their rows. They needed to do something to put their romance back on track and this was perfect. They are able to spend more quality, private time together than they have in years.” Brooklyn and Romeo will fly out with Victoria’s parents to join their mum and dad later this week. The family will return to Britain next week, in time for David to jet back to Madrid for pre-season soccer training on July 14.

Posh & Becks Try For Third Baby

The Sun reports that former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham and hubby David are trying for another baby, preferably a girl, during their romantic break in Morocco. Posh has also been helping the England soccer skipper come to terms with his disappointing performance at Euro 2004. "Victoria has been a tower of strength for him and is determined to help him get through this crisis" a friend of the couple said. "They have talked about having more children and would be thrilled if they had a little girl. There's nothing either of them feel is more important than their kids — and David simply adores them. A new baby would be a great way for them to put their troubles behind them and start a new life together in Spain."

Victoria and David in 'Best Legs' list

Kylie Minogue is well known for having the best bottom in showbiz - and now she has been voted as having the best legs too. The pint-sized pop princess has topped a poll to find the celebrity with the world's most perfect pins. She may only be 5ft tall but the singer beat long-limbed beauties Cameron Diaz and Naomi Campbell to the title. Shrek star Diaz came second and Hell's Kitchen winner Jennifer Ellison was third. Fourth was super-slim actress Nicole Kidman, while Anna Kournikova's toned legs earned her fifth place. Supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss also made the top 10, along with Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Jodie Kidd. Victoria Beckham, whose legs are forever on display in tiny skirts and sky-high heels, was voted seventh. The survey, by razor firm Gillette, also asked people to name the male celebrity with the best legs. David Beckham came top after the England captain showed off his perfect physique at Euro 2004. Second was Brad Pitt, who had female film-goers weak at the knees when he wore a leather skirt in movie epic Troy. Rugby hero Jonny Wilkinson was third, followed by Tim Henman and movie heart-throb Orlando Bloom. Jude Law, Australian tennis star Leyton Hewitt and young royal Peter Phillips also made the list.

Posh Plans Romantic Break For Down In The Dumps Becks

The Sun reports former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is whisking husband David away on a romantic break to a top secret location in Europe to help him get over his Euro 2004 penalty nightmare. "The ideal anniversary present would have been Becks lifting the cup. Of course that's not possible" a source close to the power couple revealed. "David has understandably been down in the dumps since England were knocked out. Victoria is hoping that this holiday will lift his spirits."

Angry Jackie VS Dj Richard Park

Victoria Beckham's mum called a radio station yesterday to slam reports that Posh and Becks’ marriage is in crisis. Angry Jackie Adams stunned DJ Richard Park when she phoned his show to blast claims that the couple had a series of blazing rows during Euro 2004. Jackie, 56, said: "All this talk of problems between my daughter and son-in-law is absolute rubbish. Victoria and David are as happy as can be. There is absolutely nothing wrong with their relationship. They will go on to celebrate their 50th anniversary, just you wait and see." Jackie’s extraordinary rant came after reports that Becks, 29, was at the end of his tether following a series of bust-ups with Victoria, 30, in Portugal. Posh is alleged to have screamed at her husband that she was "bored with him and "bored with football". But in her 13-minute phone call Jackie told thousands of listeners tuned in to London station LBC 97.3FM that the stories were tosh. She said Posh and Becks were "an absolute joy to watch" as they proudly cheered on their son Brooklyn at his school’s sports day on Saturday. Jackie went on: "They sat with all the other parents on the grass in the rain cheering Brooklyn on to win his five-year-olds race, which he did. David ended up handing out the prizes, which I don’t think he was expecting to do. The family are all going to live in Spain this year. The reason they didn’t move last year is because they were living in a hotel. Can you imagine living in a hotel with two kids running around?" Jackie also rubbished claims that she was barely on speaking terms with Becks after reports of his alleged affair with Rebecca Loos in Madrid. She said: "David and I are really, really close. Why in the world would I not talk to him? He hasn’t done anything to make me not talk to him. I know that I’ve got the happiest daughter and son-in-law." Jackie told DJ Park that she was calling from her home with husband Tony sitting next to her at the table. She kept apologising for "going on and on" but said she couldn’t keep her mouth shut any longer. Reports of Posh and Becks’ bust-up claimed that he was furious at her plans to stay in a villa during Euro 2004, rather than in the hotel with the other players’ wives and girlfriends. He was also said to be irritated by her behaving like "Queen Bee" — and was shocked when she knocked back drinks after England’s quarter-final defeat by Portugal. At one point the couple were said to have had a massive row in the corridor of the team hotel in which Victoria screamed she was "bored" of Becks and "didn’t want to spend the rest of her life in his shadow". The England captain was said to have been left devastated — and his torment increased as he was slammed for his performances during the competition. Becks, who missed crucial penalties against France and Portugal, admitted his fitness levels had dropped since last summer’s move from Manchester United to Real Madrid. He said: "I didn’t feel as fit in the second half of the season." The midfielder also hinted he had been affected by the allegations about his personal life, but said he "will overcome this". Becks went on: "It has been tough this season on and off the pitch because of certain situations, but I am strong enough, I’ve got to be strong because I am a father who has got to look after two young boys and my wife. When I’m down they pick me up and when they’re down I pick them up."

Victoria assist to Brooklyn's acting debut

Victoria Beckham made a 3,000-mile round trip to see her son make his Shakespeare debut in the school play. And no, that’s not Romeo . . . it’s Brooklyn. Posh Spice jetted home from Euro 2004 in Portugal to see Becks Jnr make his appearance in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Victoria and Brooklyn were whisked to the airport after watching hubby David lead England to victory in their match against Croatia on Monday night. The next day, mum and five-year-old Brooklyn headed for Hertfordshire, where his school staged a special kids’ version of the Bard’s famous comedy. Victoria and Brooklyn then boarded a plane back to Portugal in time to see England take on the host nation tonight. Posh told David that Brooklyn put in a great performance — which will hopefully inspire David to do equally well tonight. A pal of the Beckhams says: "Whatever happened in Euro 2004, Victoria was determined to get back to see Brooklyn take to the stage. It was more important to her than seeing David perform in Portugal on a much bigger stage. She was so proud of him — and he’s a real natural. Maybe a career in acting is where his future lies. Mum and Dad will certainly encourage it."

Victoria's Diary in Peru

Victoria Beckham reveals her heartache at meeting orphans in Peru in a moving three-day diary. She broke down in tears after working with the poverty-stricken children for a TV documentary. Posh, 30, admits she felt ashamed of her pampered lifestyle with hubby, England skipper and Real Madrid ace David, 29, and sons Brooklyn, five, and 21-month-old Romeo. She also tells how she grew close to Dinah, an 11-year-old girl scratching a living from a rubbish dump in Peru’s capital, Lima. Victoria visited South America to make a Sport Relief documentary, A Mile In Their Shoes, to be screened on BBC1 next Sunday at 5.45pm. It also features TV presenter Nick Knowles in Zambia and comedian Patrick Kielty in India. Here is Victoria’s account in her own words.

Preparation
Met with members of the Sport Relief team at 19, my management offices. Am nervous about what to expect on the trip. Even though I travelled the world with the Spice Girls, I've never done anything like this before. The stuff I'm filming in Peru is a third of a Sport Relief piece, with Nick Knowles in Zambia and Patrick Kielty in India. Been talking to Mum and she has lots of helpful tips like taking pencils and crayons as presents, rather than felt tips, which will dry out in the sun. Not sure how she knows that though. Really want to give away some of the toys Brooklyn and Romeo have given me to take to the children. Am really excited. B's excited about sending toys out. He's getting R into it, too.

Sunday, May 16
Very early start. Leave Brooklyn and Romeo in my bed cos have to be out by 4.30 and they’re asleep. Said goodbye to them last night — told them I’m away for “two sleeps.” Arrival at airport, check-in and filming all go well. In my luggage are the boys’ sweets — went to the Makro store yesterday to stock up. Spent most of last night with Brooklyn and Romeo sitting in a row like a little factory line sharing them out into hundreds of bags to give the kids I meet. Also looked in Brooklyn and Romeo’s boxes of toys. Tried to explain to the boys that the children in Peru have nothing. Short flight to Madrid where we have to change for Lima. Talk to camera during long flight to Peru. Hope that this trip helps out Sport Relief and does some good. Arrive Lima, usual security. Check in, do a bit of filming then hit the sack. 6am start tomorrow.

Monday, May 17
pP before the sun. Grab a quick breakfast in my room. Spoke to David last night. He’s also filming for Sport Relief today. Drive out to the community. The only smart places in Lima seem to be petrol stations for some reason. Turn off main road into a barren area that looks like a lunar landscape. There are scattered ramshackle shacks, some built on the side of steep hills, and skinny dogs. Dead dog in the road. Feels a bit like I imagine the world to look if there was a nuclear attack. I’m here over the next two days to see the world through the eyes of a little 11-year-old girl called Dinah. I start the day with her. First is breakfast. Dinah collects water from a drum at the gate. They have to buy this at 50 cents a time from the water truck. The meal is a kind of porridge, the same as they’ll have for dinner tonight — if they’re lucky. Dinah’s house. They are trying to grow a garden but are really struggling because it’s just so dry. Dinah is gorgeous, very outgoing, full of love and enjoys having hugs. Her dad, Alfonso, is very dignified. Her mum died of cancer three years ago. It’s common here. Dinah gets wood fire going, boils water. She’s so hard-working but has so much responsibility. Their house is so tidy yet it’s just stuff stuck together with plastic sheeting for a roof. Try to help while Dinah goes through daily routine. After half an hour, meal is ready. Awful taste with flavour of the wood fire. But it’s all they’ve got. I think about taking Brooklyn and Romeo home from hospital when they were born and the hopes I had for them. I think about Dinah’s mum who died and how she must have loved her child. My kids went home to a totally clean, sterilised, safe environment. Dinah went home to a house with danger and disease all around her. But the families here just have to get on with it. There’s no choice. How can there be such huge differences in how people live? Why? Here I am surrounded by plastic bags, oil drums, scraps of this and that. All representing something of value to them. The house has brick walls but it’s built on rubbish. The smell is strong and unpleasant. No one should have to live like this. Experience ... Victoria mucks in Dinah spots my painted nails, says they are beautiful. The next four hours are some of the strangest I’ve ever had — I dig up scraps of rubbish from the ground alongside Dinah. I have a knife, she uses her bare hands like she does every single day. With an experienced eye, she sifts aluminium, plastic, glass, tin, paper and bones. All are laid in neat piles before being taken to the house and added to sacks before selling on. Everything here is worth something and often gets sold on. All kids help their families to work. Organisations such as the ones helping Dinah have tried to help the people to recycle, showing them how to do it better to make as much money as they can, which is still a miserable amount. It’s not fair, the difference between her life and that of a kid her age at home. When I think of my kids and their rooms and what they have and I look at Dinah it breaks my heart. I know people may criticise me for doing this, saying it’s just for publicity. But nothing could be further from the truth. If I can do some good by being here, that’s why I’m doing it — to show people what it’s really like. You can’t help but be moved, overwhelmed and compassionate — this is really emotional stuff. The rubbish picking goes on. The sun’s high and the stench is intolerable. We find bits of bone, tweezers, toothpaste tubes, squashed cans. Dinah’s looking for the right shapes of glass, not too straight but a bit curved. Perhaps the shaped stuff gets a better price. Felt it was important to really get stuck in to show her that I could at least do for a little while what she has to do all day, every day. The last bit of madness today is with “fresh” rubbish. The stuff picked up from middle-class homes in Lima. Trucks pass through with it on the way to the tip. Kids work in teams diving into the rubbish, looking for stuff that could be useful. The bags are covered in flies and bugs. I met a brother-and-sister team aged just eight and six. He throws stuff out and she collects it. They take it home to their parents. I met four kids, Joheyard, Ines, Pilar and Pracely. They’re great. Lively, interested, a bit cheeky and great fun — if David was here he’d feel like taking them home too. I’m having a hug with a little girl called Brigid. She looks like a lost soul, then her mum scoops her up and we all follow the truck. I spot a little boy called Roy wandering around, unaware of the filming and noise. He reminds me of Romeo — a bit distracted, everything going over his head. I hand out some signed pictures of David that I brought with me and entertain the kids briefly with a few snatches of the Spice Girls hit Wannabe — seemed to go down well! I’ve brought a picture story in Spanish with me, which I read with Dinah when she’s in bed. She clocks that my Spanish isn’t up to scratch so decides to give me a lesson. We head back to town. Believe it or not, the council are watering the central reservation, which has the only grass for miles. Where the poor have to buy water! Someone has got their priorities wrong, big time.

Tuesday, May 18
Project people from organisation ChildHope are teaching the kids how to sow seeds so they can grow stuff to supplement their diet. The kids work hard and seem to like it. Chat with David trying to explain what it’s like — hard. He’s planning to take the kids to the circus. Tell him to make sure Brooklyn does his spellings and say hi to Romeo too. Drive back to main community. Pass a few tiny shops with things like oil, sugar. Not much on offer. Go to medical centre. See a range of kids with the doctor who are full of energy. Keep asking me to sing. Next we look at some of the positive work being done with the kids. We head to a fertile valley ten minutes away. I meet a cute little boy, Giovanni. I’ve heard his mum is dead. He has a wound over his left eye, which we dress. For the first time I lose it when I’m at doctor’s. There’s a woman and a bundle of stuff on examination couch. Only when the bundle moves do I realise it’s a baby girl. She has respiratory problems. She’s such a tiny thing, it’s awful and really gets to me and shakes me up. I feel so sad and so helpless and yet I really want to help. People shouldn’t have to live like this. Everything I’ve seen today has made me emotional. It gets to me like it would to any mum. Though I’m tearful, I feel I should be strong, like the people here. The problem is that the humid, hot climate causes breathing problems here, plus women are undernourished and their breast milk doesn’t give immunity. The result can be pneumonia — a killer. Houses are not insulated, kids live in damp rooms with dirty floors and work in rubbish every day. After returning from the medical centre, I take my leave of Dinah. She’s been a star. In her house I paint her nails, like I promised, and leave everything I have, including a few books. It’s only been two-and-a-half days but it has felt like a lifetime. I’m so pleased I came. The kids in Lima who have to work picking rubbish all day really deserve better. They deserve to go to school, have a safe home and enough food and health care. What they do have is plenty of love and spirit. And Sport Relief is trying to help with local projects. I urge you to watch the documentary.

VB's Straberry Diet

Victoria Beckham has gone on a bizarre diet of just strawberries. She has been snubbing healthy meat-and-salad dishes at the Portuguese hotel where the wives and girlfriends of the English soccer team are staying during Euro 2004. Friends are concerned that already stick-thin Posh, 30, could end up wasting away if she carries on with her strawberry diet. Ironically, her husband David's former PA Rebecca Loos revealed how he hand-fed her strawberries during their steamy affair. A fellow footballer's wife staying with Victoria at the luxury Penha Longa Hotel and Golf Resort told the Sunday Mirror: "She just eats strawberries and turns away all the great breakfasts and salads that everyone else tucks into. Most days she has only one meal and that is strawberries. Sometimes she just sits there drinking mineral water while we all tuck in. It is a bit strange." Health experts have also warned that her rigid diet - which can perk up the libido - could lead to diarrhoea, loss of energy and irritation of the gut. Nutritionist Zoe Tebbutt said the vitamin C, fruit and anti-oxidants in strawberries would clear up Victoria's notoriously spotty skin and have some health benefits. But she also warned that she was dicing with danger if she stuck to the diet for more than a few days - and might even threaten the possibility of having a third child if she persists with it. "A two-day detox eating a mixture of fruit and vegetables, and plenty of water and multi-vitamins, would probably be quite good for you," she said. "But in this case she is not getting any protein, so her cells will not be able to regenerate and she will feel very weak." Victoria is staying at the hotel with sons Romeo, 18 months, and Brooklyn, five, along with Beckham's mum Sandra. David and the other players are allowed to associate with their partners only occasionally during the championships.

Posh Health Worries Over Strawberry Only Diet

Friends tell the Sunday Mirror they are concerned that already stick-thin Victoria Beckham could end up wasting away if she carries on with her bizarre strawberry only diet. Busy travelling Victoria

Posh Spice is staying on in Portugal to give husband David Beckham a lift in his hour of need. She has promised to see Euro 2004 through as long as England are in the competition. Her parents Jackie and Tony had to return home yesterday but Victoria, 30, and sons Brooklyn, five, and one-year-old Romeo will be there to see England play Switzerland tomorrow. It had been feared that recording commitments would keep her away and she would only fly to Lisbon if England made the final. But her spokeswoman said: "Her plan is now to stay on at the tournament to support David and the team. She is going to go to as many of the matches as she can. The boys are really enjoying themselves. She would only come back if the children needed to come back for some reason." Sven Goran Eriksson gave the players yesterday afternoon off after training to be with their partners. And the players headed off to the wives' hotel for fun. Becks has being going around the Penha Longa hotel near Estoril rallying his players. He said: "We were all down as a team but it's my responsibility to walk round the hotel with a big smile on my face and not worry about the last game."

VB on Blingland

The England squad’s wives and girlfriends tried to out-bling each other as their menfolk battled France — by showing who had scored most Gold. Winner was Victoria Beckham, 30, who lived up to her image as the wife of Goldenballs. She wore her £80,000 Van Cleef and Arpels engagement ring and a huge customised £12,000 Cartier tank watch studded with diamonds. Posh set them off with £250 sunglasses by designer Chloe. Steven Gerrard’s fiancée Alex Curran, 21, opted for a £10,000 watch by Jacob and Co — a footballer’s favourite with its instantly recognisable red, blue and yellow face. She teamed it with a bling ring and Christian Dior shades worth £150. Elen Rives, 27 — girlfriend of Frank Lampard — wore £150 Gucci shades and what looked like a £10,000 yellow Bulgari watch. Wayne Rooney’s 18-year-old fiancée Colleen McLoughlin chose a £6,000 Jacob and Co watch to go with her £14,000 diamond ring and £120 Chloe shades.

Spice Girls plan for a Greatest Hits Album

The Spice Girls have axed plans to release a greatest hits album after a series of rows between Sporty and Co. I can reveal the fivesome have pulled the release date because Mekanie Chislom didn’t want to be part of a concert promoting the CD. And bosses at Virgin Records refused to spend millions of pounds plugging the disc unless all five agreed to sing at the one-off gig. Melanie B, Emma Bunton, Gera Halliwell and Victoria Beckham, were desperate to go ahead with the show in a bid to revive their struggling careers. But Sporty still believes she can find solo success, even though she has been dumped by Virgin and has no record deal. She is touring UK venues that hold just 200 people — and she cannot even fill those. A source said: "Mel refuses to join the girls on stage because she still dreams of making it big by herself. But she’s on her smallest tour ever — and that’s struggling. She told the others she was happy to do TV interviews to plug the album but that was it. The money men at Virgin said a big concert was the only way to guarantee massive publicity, so they pulled plans for a release in the first week of November." The Girls’ boss Simon Fuller was also involved in plans. He thinks the CD should not be scrapped completely. The source went on: "They have agreed to release the greatest hits in 2006. It’s billed as ten years of the Spice Girls since they released their first single Wannabe in 1996. The girls reckon Mel will be back with her tail between her legs by then. Her solo career will be a distant memory so she’ll have no choice but to jump on the bandwagon." In January, I revealed the has-beens had broken their vow never to reform and agreed to a one-off gig and the album. Baby, Posh, Scary, Sporty and Ginger went solo after the group split in 2001 but one-by-one Virgin dropped them. Mel B was the first out after her album Hot proved anything but. She is starring in Broadway musical Rent. Emma and Victoria were ditched after ropy efforts and Mel C went in January. Geri has a deal with Innocent Records — but is under pressure for a great album. Posh is threatening to release yet another rubbish single, even though her previous attempts were laughable. And I think the artist formerly known as Sporty will be begging to sing with the other Spices soon. So much for Girl Power.

VB join the others footballer's wives

Victoria Beckham, wife of England captain David Beckham, had a change of heart and decided to join the wives of the rest of the squad at Euro 2004 at a luxury resort in the mountains near Lisbon but was turned away, news reports said. She had initially refused to stay at the five-star golf resort of Penha Longa, which is also home to the Czech squad, preferring instead to rent a luxury condo in the nearby seaside village of Cascais. But after being accused of snubbing her fellow football wives, Victoria, 29, tried to take a room at the resort Friday but was told it was fully booked, the Portuguese tabloid 24Horas reported. "We received calls from people connected to Mrs Beckham requesting a room, but we simply have none free" a spokesman for the resort told the paper. Victoria, formerly Posh of the Spice Girls, has returned to the the luxury condo in Cascais which is close to the hotel which the England team is using as its base camp during the three-week tournament, the paper said. British media reports said Victoria wanted to set up a separate base from the rest of the wives where she and her Real Madrid star husband could spend some free time together. Her spokesman however told the online edition of daily newspaper "The Telegraph" Saturday that the singer had waited until the last minute to book a room at the Penha Longa Hotel "because of late-running recording commitments." An executive suite at the Penha Longa resort, a former royal palace which boasts an 18-hole golf course, a team of masseurs, and a Japanese restaurant, rents for 4,537 pounds (6,871 euros, 8,257 dollars) per week in June, according to its website. England kick off their Euro 2004 campaign in Lisbon on Sunday against title holders France.

Victoria partying in Portugal

Raising a glass of sangria in the air, Victoria Beckham toasts her fellow England wives. "Let's start as we mean to go on" she announces with a laugh. Minutes earlier the exclusive club that is the Wags - the wives and girlfriends of the England squad - had been happily drinking Pimms. But the arrival of Posh Spice changed all that. It's clear that here in Portugal Victoria is very much in charge. After downing the traditional Spanish drink, she leads her band from the hotel into the warm Lisbon night for dinner. Her performance on the eve of England's opening match against France was clearly aimed at quashing rumours she is too aloof to mix with the rest of the Wags. She had booked into a private villa for the tournament but realising her mistake, her staff begged the manager of the Wags' base, the £350-a-night Penha Longa Hotel and Golf resort, for a room. There were claims Sven Goran Eriksson's partner Nancy Dell'Olio had been sent to smooth over any bitchiness. But Victoria's performance on Saturday night made it clear she needed no help in launching her own charm offensive. And, that while on the pitch her husband David is captain, off it, she's clearly the boss of this particular squad. Earlier in the day Victoria is conspicuous by her absence. In the searing 32 degree heat, the other Wags loll by the pool of the five star hotel, 20 miles outside the Portuguese capital. On one side Steven Gerrard's fiancee Alex Curran, 21, shows off her svelte post-pregnancy figure in a sequinned bikini as she and her mum look after four-month-old baby Lily under a large sun umbrella. On the other side, more wives form an alternative line up as they bask on a row of sun loungers in their kit of designer swimwear and summery kaftan cover ups. Training for them the day before the big game involves nothing more strenuous than rubbing sun lotion on to already bronzed limbs and sipping mineral water. They don't talk about football but when they are likely to see their husbands next. Sol Campbell's girlfriend, millionaire interior designer Kelly Hoppen, 44, performs the role of vice-captain in Victoria's absence. Kelly, who has just discovered Sol, 29, is the dad of ex-girlfriend Janet Tyler's baby boy, is group organiser. She arranges the night out, helped by Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard's girlfriend, bubbly Spaniard Elen Rives, the social secretary. When Kelly is unable to book a table large enough at the restaurant of her choice Elen, 27, steps in to translate. "Tell them we're players' wives" someone suggests. Not surprisingly within a few minutes the problem has been resolved. Next to Elen sits fellow Chelsea wife Toni Poole, 23, the partner of defender John Terry. She looks relaxed and happy, despite recent allegations two women had flings with her live-in lover. Also there is Wags newcomer, Colleen McLoughlin, 18. But Colleen, like fiance Everton prodigy Wayne Rooney, has learnt quickly and blends in wearing a blue, green and white designer bikini. She has a quick swim and Emile Heskey's partner Kylee Pincent dips her toes in the children's pool where her two sons are playing. Despite the oppressive heat, the other Wags choose not to risk wetting their hair or smudging their make up. But David Beckham's mum Sandra takes grandsons Brooklyn and Romeo for a swim. A popular figure, Sandra spends the rest of the afternoon mingling. By 4.30pm all the Wags have left the pool to get ready for the evening. By 7.30pm the women are quietly congregating in the hotel lobby bar for a pre-dinner drink. Then at 8.15pm Posh sweeps down and it is obvious the real queen has arrived. Teetering on vertiginous heels and wearing a black Dolce & Gabbana backless dress formed of little more than three scraps of material her tiny wrist is weighed down by a diamond encrusted watch and she clutches a Chanel handbag. Smoking cigarillos, recent allegations David had an affair with personal assistant Rebecca Loos, seem a million miles away. It is clear she is determined to party. There is Dom Perignon champagne but, influenced by her time in Spain, Posh insists on ordering jugs of sangria for everyone. By 8.30pm the group are on their way in an unglamorous white minibus to Kais, a restaurant in the trendy docks area of Lisbon. Here Posh holds court at the centre of the table with Kelly by her side. Afterwards, back at the hotel, which the Wags are sharing with the Czech Republic team, the party sit up for more drinks. Posh is one of the last to leave for bed at about 1.30am but is up for breakfast with the children at 9.30am. She walked in wearing a skimpy turquoise bikini top printed with flowers, micro shorts and high heels. Breakfast over, Victoria and the other wives including Louise Bonsall, partner of Michael Owen and Claire Scholes, wife of England stalwart Paul, head for the pool. By 2pm the Wags have deserted the heat to get ready for the match nearly six hours later. Hair has to be done and make-up applied and the evening's outfit has to be just right. But there can be only one winner in this particular game - Victoria.

We're here to see daddy

Victoria Beckham yesterday gave husband David a Euro 2004 boost when she arrived in Portugal to cheer on him and his England team-mates. The 30-year-old singer landed in Lisbon with excited sons Romeo and Brooklyn, who yelled "We're here to see daddy" as soon as the plane touched down. Posh arrived at the airport with Steven Gerrard's fiancee Alex Curran and Wayne Rooney's 18-year-old girlfriend Colleen McLoughlin as their other halves prepared to take on bitter rivals France tomorrow in their opening game of the contest. Posh, Romeo, Brooklyn and carers land in Lisbon yesterday, but she ditched her private jet to join ordinary fans on the British Airways flight from Heathrow with 21-month-old Romeo and Brooklyn, five. And Victoria told passengers: "I'm really looking forward to the game - it is going to be brilliant. We can't wait to see David." On the flight she perched next to stunned supporters Richard Barber, and Tracy Draper, both 21, from Croydon, Surrey. Richard said: "We couldn't believe it. She was really happy and chatty and told us how much she was looking forward to the match. The kids were really excited when we touched down and shouted: 'We are here to see daddy. We are here to see daddy.' They were so happy. Posh was very down to earth." Richard told how he felt guilty because he was reading about Victoria not being able to get into the players' wives hotel at the Penha Longa resort as the Czech team had taken all the remaining rooms. But he needn't have worried - she managed to secure a room after a last-minute plea to the hotel management. At the team's training camp, skipper Beckham was clearly dreaming of Euro glory as he posed for pictures in a replica 1966 England World Cup winning shirt. The delighted player told football chiefs his family's arrival was "brilliant news". A source at the England camp said: "He loves playing in front of his family. It is a massive boost for him for his wife and children to be here, and he is already as pumped up for the match as he can be. It will be tremendous if either of the kids can make the game. He will give Posh a wave as he lines up for the national anthem." Beckham yesterday paid a personal tribute to his wife, who he said had been a "rock" following revelations the Real Madrid star allegedly had affairs with former PA Rebecca Loos and model Sarah Marbeck. He added: "That is one of the reasons I married her. She has such inner strength. Obviously she is beautiful but she is such a strong person as well. She is the one who has kept us together as a family and I know for a fact that she will carry on taking the flak. We both will. I have a good strong family, a good strong wife and two great children." Becks spoke as more of the expected 50,000 England fans poured into Portugal.

Victoria Beckham VS Neil Fox

British Pop Idol judge, Neil Fox has claimed that Victoria Beckham's is not a superstar and her career as a pop star is totally 'fake'. The radio DJ, who stars alongside Simon Cowell in the UK reality TV programme, feels that Beckham doesn't stand a chance of launching a successful solo career. He also said that Posh should find something else to do because nobody would ever accept a fake pop star. "The Spice Girls were a phenomenon but they had the world's best producers, video-makers and writers behind them. Stupidly, she's forgotten there was a team behind them, and that she's not a superstar now."

Beckham's Pre-Euro 2004 Party

Posh and Becks hosted a lavish pre-Euro party for the England squad at their mansion. The couple spent thousands on vintage champagne and a sea-food buffet at Beckingham Palace. The squad were invited to the house in Sawbridgeworth, Herts, last Sunday after their sensational 6-1 win against Iceland. The party started at around 4pm. Many of the team turned up, including Joe Cole, Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney, Ian Walker and Frank Lampard. Becks's personal butler John Giles-Larkin served the lobster buffet laid out on the long dining room table. The invitation was extended to partners and family of the squad and soft drinks and children's food was also laid on. An insider said: "David's sons Romeo and Brooklyn were at the party and were running around excitedly. But there weren't too many playmates for the two boys as most of the players who turned up didn't have children. It wasn't a big affair like the party before the World Cup two years ago but it was the last chance of a social get-together for wives and families before the start of the tournament."

Slumming it.. Posh does her bit in Peru

Victoria Beckham picks and scratches among a mountain of rubbish where slum people eke out their meagre living. These pictures were taken on a three-day trip by Sport Relief to a shanty-town near Lima, Peru. Posh said: "I've never experienced anything like it. The poverty that people face every day is unbelievable." Victoria shone light into the existence of the slum's children with a hug for a little girl called Dinah, 11. And, as we exclusively revealed last month, she handed out gifts of toys from sons Brooklyn, five, and Romeo, 21-months, to youngsters. Helper Lillian Segura, 45, said: "The children were screaming, 'Victoria! Victoria!' as she handed out toys and footballs. She was wonderful." But each evening Posh left the poverty for her five-star Double Tree El Pardo Hotel. She joined comedian Patrick Kielty and TV presenter Nick Knowles for the BBC documentary, to show the lives of three children on three continents.

Posh left her glamorous showbiz life behind today as she visited poverty-stricken children in Peru. The former Spice Girl was working alongside youngsters in the capital Lima who root through rubbish tips to earn a living. One of the little girls, 11-year-old Dinah, was forced to help her father work at the tip after her mother died. Posh helped her out, picking at the ground with a knife trying to unearth buried material such as glass, metal and bone which can be sold on. The work is tough and many children working at the pit have been struck down with stomach and lung problems, as well as fungal infections. Speaking of her time in South America, Posh said: "I have never experienced anything like it. The poverty that people face everyday is unbelievable. As a mother, to see children living with these challenges everyday is heart-breaking but they continue to remain upbeat. To witness the struggles of one family first hand and spend time with them has been unforgettable." Posh's three-day trip was filmed as part of a Sport Relief documentary highlighting the plight of disadvantaged communities to be shown on BBC1 next month.

Victoria's new summer style

Victoria Beckham set temperatures soaring as she arrived at the Royal Albert Hall in a revealing summer dress. The former Spice Girl's retro-style floral yellow frock left little to the imagination - with its plunging neckline revealing a glorious tan. Flanked by her father Tony Adams and a minder, Victoria was attending a special press performance of the English National Ballet's Swan Lake. The ballet production - the largest in the world - features a cast of over 120 performers, including jugglers, acrobats and 60 dancing "swans". While Victoria was grabbing the limelight in London, her husband David was preparing for England's Euro 2004 opener against France on Sunday. Posh is expected to fly out to Portugal to watch her husband captain the national side later this week. Media reports claimed Posh had refused to share a hotel with the rest of the England team's wives and girlfriends, preferring the privacy of her own luxury villa instead.

Victoria's eclusivity in Vanity Fair

Not much going on in the Beckham world. The issue of Vanity Fair with David Beckham on the cover is out; it includes an interview with him and some parts with Victoria. Also, some news on her new single. The song, My Love Is For Real, has been published at EMI and credits Jan Kask, Terry Ronald, Cathy Dennis, and Victoria Beckham as the writers. Kasmanaut (Jan Kask and Peter Mansson) have produced it and Mark "Spike" Stent is mixing it. A final mix of the track will probably be done soon.

Daily Star defends Victoria

Poor old Posh - give the girl a break, please. No, we mean it. "Too Posh For England" sneers the front of the Sun, as "Victoria spurns wives' hotel for private villa" and that paper yet again misjudges the mood of the nation. Think on this: perhaps the reasoning behind the private villa, near Lisbon where England kick off their Euro 2004 campaign against France, is that Mrs Beckham, her parents and the nippers want a holiday. Perfectly normal behaviour, no matter how loaded you are or what wrung of the social ladder you're on. Publicity shy she ain't, but maybe this time she wants a bit of privacy for her family, away from the media glare which will be trained on the players and, inevitably, their wives and partners. With the Mirror's weekly 3am mag shrieking "Footie Wives At War!" today, as it snipes at "winners and losers" in the lady "fashion league", you've got to say her judgment is bang on. You can just imagine it; the merest perceived snub by the Vickster of a fellow footballers' wifelet in front of the all-seeing paps and red-top hell would break loose. So, sensibly, a villa it is. Enjoy your vacation, Victoria. And yes, we do mean it.

Victoria not staying with other wives

Picky Posh Spice hired her own luxury villa rather than join the rest of England’s footballers’ wives at a five-star hotel in Portugal. Partners of the nation’s soccer heroes will stay at the plush Penha Longa golf and spa resort just outside Lisbon as their other halves prepare for their crucial Euro 2004 battles. There they will be able to treat themselves to a variety of upmarket health and beauty treatments. But ex-Spice Girl Victoria, 30, has insisted she won’t join them. Instead the singer — who jets to Portugal on Friday — rented the villa so she and her two sons can stay in private while supporting 29-year-old skipper David’s Euro campaign. She is also planning to take her parents with her to help look after boys Brooklyn, five, and Romeo, one. A source close to Posh said: "Victoria wants privacy in Portugal. She feels she’ll be the centre of attention if she stays with all the other wives and girlfriends and hates the idea that everyone will be staring at her. It’s like a big competition between all the women as to who can be the most glamorous — in fact, it isn’t too different from the Footballers’ Wives TV show. Victoria is obviously the ultimate Footballer’s Wife, but she doesn’t want to be part of that bitchy scene. She doesn’t really mix with all the other wives because she’s so paranoid about security and about people gossiping about her and David. She wants to be there to support David through every game and she thinks staying in her own villa will make that easier." David’s family, including mum Sandra and sister Joanne, are also expected to fly to Portugal to watch Sunday’s big kick-off against reigning Euro champs France. Midfielder Becks jetted out on Monday with his team-mates and national boss Sven Goran Eriksson. Wary Sven has banned the team from seeing their wives and girlfriends until after Sunday’s match to avoid any chance of distractions.

Victoria falls out with designer

As if allegedly sleeping with her husband was not enough, Posh Spice has found a new reason to dislike Rebecca Loos. On seeing the Dutch diplomat's daughter in an outfit by her favourite designer, Victoria Beckham apparently lost her temper. The former Spice Girl reportedly phoned the designer in person to complain. The dressmaker - Maria Grachvogel - is an old friend of the England captain's wife. The News of the World reports that Posh screamed: "You've betrayed me. I can't believe you let that slut wear one of your dresses." Maria pointed out that she could hardly stop Rebecca from buying one of her £795 frocks. A source told the paper: "Maria would never deliberately risk their relationship." Rebecca claims to have had a brief affair with Becks while working as his PA - he says the claim is "ludicrous".

VB using public transport

Forget the Bentleys and chauffeur-driven limousines, it seems Victoria Beckham is just as happy getting the tram these days like the rest of us. Our sensational snaps show the former Spice Girl waiting with her parents and two sons for the Metrolink, in Manchester's St Peter's Square. The pictures were taken just hours before her husband David was due to lead out England in their Euro 2004 warm-up friendly against Iceland at the City of Manchester stadium on Saturday. Passers-by couldn't believe their eyes as they watched confident little Brooklyn flag down a tram while Victoria, flanked by her own parents Jackie and Tony Adams and a suited bodyguard, held younger brother Romeo in one arm. They were later spotted in the VIP stand at the game. One amazed onlooker said: "I had to look twice because at first I thought it was some kind of stunt. It's not every day that you see one half of the most famous couple in the country getting on a tram, but then it's nice to think that despite all her wealth she still uses public transport." Yet Victoria looked like she had other things on her mind. The singer had been in high spirits the previous night when she headed for The Living Room on Deansgate for a drink and a bite to eat. But she awoke to fresh allegations about her husband's private life after the soccer star's former minder Delfin Fernandez claimed Beckham had affairs with three women in Spain.

Victoria furious against Vanity Fair

Victoria Beckham is reportedly furious she has been left off the cover of the prestigious Vanity Fair magazine this July while husband David Beckham graces it. The former Spice Girl was allegedly hoping to appear alongside her Real Madrid soccer star spouse on the style bible's front cover - and is upset over the decision to include David without her. A source explains: "David Beckham may not be a household name in the States but he still has plenty of pulling power with the fashion set. He was voted one of Vanity Fair's best-dressed men in a poll last year. But Victoria doesn't carry the same weight. Of course, she's chuffed that David is going to be on the cover but, as far as she's concerned, The Spice Girls were huge in the States so she can't understand why Vanity Fair only wanted him."

Posh steps out as Becks stays in

David may have not been able to hit the town last night but Victoria Beckham was under no such restrictions as she made a colourful appearance in Manchester. The most famous footballer's wife stepped out from her Manchester hotel and headed for The Living Room on Deansgate for a drink and a bite to eat with her girlie pals. And any hopes she had of going unnoticed evaporated the moment she walked out into the street in a bright yellow and black top by her celebrity designer pals Dolce and Gabbana, a white and pink floral mini skirt, bright pink high heels and a blood red handbag. The outfit may not have been the perfect mix and match outfit for the millionaire about town, but at least the bag complemented the red England kit sported by her son Brooklyn. Little Brooklyn had earlier been carried into the hotel by Victoria's dad Tony. The youngster proudly showed off the back of his England shirt , which carried his father's name and number 7. While he was tucked up in bed, his mum enjoyed her night out at The Living Room. The venue has been a favourite haunt of the Beckhams and David was there with his England teammates for a knees-up earlier in the week. In the past, the celebrity couple have shared a table there with the likes of Justin Timberlake and a variety of footballers. And despite recent allegations about David Beckham's private life, his wife seemed to be enjoying herself on her night out with the girls. An onlooker said: "It just seemed like any get together of young women having a chat and a drink in Manchester on a Friday night. They were having a good natter and a giggle every now and again. "I didn't realise it was Victoria at first. But she certainly seemed to be enjoying herself." Husband David will be hoping to have as much fun today when he leads England out at the City of Manchester Stadium for a friendly against Iceland - the last game before England face France in the Euro 2004 championships a week tomorrow. And victory in that game would definitely be worth a night on the town.

Victoria's new job

Victoria Beckham has finally found a job she should be half-decent at – designing shoes. With her singing career decidedly down at heel, Posh will put her heart and sole into designing pricey footwear for top label Gina. Bosses there asked her if she would be interested in launching her own range of expensive shoes. With the number of fancy heels she has bought I would think she will be something of an expert. Many a credit card has taken a battering in Gina stores — believe me, I’ve been there. They can cost over a thousand quid a pair. Just this week in London’s Knightsbridge branch of Gina I spotted Martine McCutchen trying on a bargain basement pair selling for “just” £300. Victoria has already made some sketches of shoes and her finished products are likely to sport a VB logo. A pal said last night: "When the offer came in Victoria said ‘yes’ straight away. She loves shoes and has a really good eye for what is cool and what’s not. She is a style icon and is confident she will come up with some sexy designs. Regardless of what you think of her singing career, nobody can dispute that she has great fashion sense." But shoes aren’t the only designer iron in the fire for Posh at the moment. She is bringing out a range of beauty products, including a face cream to rival Crème de la Mer, which sells at around £100 a pot. The deal comes as Victoria branches out in a bid to build brand-Beckham across the world. She will tie up her buckling pop career with one more single then concentrate on promoting the style credentials of herself and David. I say good luck to her. I reckon it’s time for Victoria to say “cobblers” to singing ... this shoe thing might just work.

Victoria have some problems with America

Poor Victoria Beckham. Her obsession with making "brand Beckham" a worldwide force has once again left her with a huge splattering of egg on her face. The former Spice Girl is said to be upset after failing to make the front cover of prestigious US magazine Vanity Fair. Bosses of the celebrity style bible ruled her out of having any role in husband David's appearance on the cover of its July issue. And the singer is said to be far from happy. The New York-based magazine executives see England captain and Real Madrid midfielder Becks, 29, as a sporting icon. So, despite his alleged fling with former PA Rebecca Loos, they dispatched veteran photographer Annie Leibovitz - famed for her portraits of some of the biggest showbiz names - to Madrid for the shoot. But sadly for Victoria, her services were not required. "David Beckham may not be a household name in the States but he still has plenty of pulling power with the fashion set" a magazine source tells us. "He was voted one of Vanity Fair's best dressed men in a poll last year. But Victoria doesn't carry the same weight." A joint appearance on the cover would have done wonders for Posh's bid to make the couple household names in America. But while British-based magazines are falling over themselves to get their hands on the pair, in America it's a different story. Last year, she and David attended the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles and presented a gong as part of their bid to raise their profile. But most of their much-hyped appearance ended up on the cutting-room floor rather than on US screens, with an MTV exec saying that they were insufficiently known to warrant anything more than a "fleeting glimpse". The mum-of-two also spent several weeks in New York with hip-hop mogul Damon Dash, attempting to reinvent herself as a "hip-pop" star. But that, too, failed to reignite her music career... so much so she is now set to release her forthcoming single on the internet. "Of course, she's chuffed that David is going to be on the cover but, as far as she's concerned, the Spice Girls were huge in the States so she can't understand why Vanity Fair only wanted him" says a source. "It would have generated the type of publicity over there that money can't buy." Unless Victoria quickly manages to do something pretty big, her dreams for this international 'brand Beckham' thing will fade away.

Posh snubs other footballers wives

Victoria Beckham is reportedly snubbing other England footballers' partners at their training camp in Sardinia. The Daily Mail says she been spending almost all her time in her hotel room with her two sons. The paper says some of the other partners feel particularly aggrieved because they had wanted to be friendly to her following her recent alleged marital problems. It says when she does come out, it is only to talk to Sven Goran Eriksson's girlfriend Nancy Dell'Olio. She is said to have called Victoria several times to offer support when stories were circulating about her husband and Rebecca Loos. A source said: "Victoria's behaviour is causing problems. All of the wives and girlfriends are nagging their men to ask David why she is being so unfriendly. It is the first time she has really spent any time with them, as she often doesn't accompany David to the tournaments for long periods. They have invited her on several of their shopping trips and tried to involve her in all their activities, but she has rejected them all - saying she is busy."

Victoria's Wine Preference Anything But Posh

Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham stunned everyone at a photoshoot - by sending out for two bottles of cheap Blue Nun wine. "No one could believe that was what she wanted at first" a source explained. "It's not exactly the coolest drink in the world, is it? Every type of drink had been laid on at the studio and they were nothing but the best. But when Posh turned up she claimed she didn't want any of the expensive stuff that had been laid on. Apparently Blue Nun' is one of her favorite tipples."

David shunned by Posh's mum

David Beckham is in the doghouse with his mother-in-law over his affairs with Rebecca Loos and Sarah Marbeck. Posh's mum Jackie has cold-shouldered him ever since we blew the whistle on the England skipper, his Spanish PA and the Aussie model. The fuming 55-year-old totally blanked him at his 29th birthday bash at the couple's Beckingham Palace home in Herts. A friend said: "She is so furious she can barely look him in the eye, let alone talk to him. The atmosphere was really bad between them. Jackie and Victoria are incredibly close and she was very distressed at the pain that David has put her daughter through. Jackie is a formidable woman and certainly not someone you'd want to get on the wrong side of. She has made her feelings very clear and doesn't care who knows about it. Publicly Victoria and David have put on a united front, but behind the scenes there has been a lot of heartache. Jackie has been there throughout and has been the only person Victoria could really turn to for support." Beckham got in a temper himself this week when he was quizzed about Rebecca and Sarah at a Euro 2004 press conference in Sardinia. He ranted: "The way I and my family have been treated is an absolute disgrace. I'm a nice person and loving husband and father." But once again, he failed to deny our story. The family friend revealed: "Jackie is very ambitious for her daughter and thinks she is doing the wrong thing by giving up her music career and moving to Madrid to become a devoted wifey."

Victoria talks again about the Beck's affair

David Beckham's wife says in a magazine interview that her husband has never been unfaithful to her, despite the claims of two women who said they had affairs with him. "Through all of this, I feel really sorry for David because it's his name that's been dragged through it, and he's done nothing wrong." Victoria Beckham is quoted as saying in the July issue of Marie Claire magazine, which goes on sale in England on Thursday. "I really do believe that deep down that I have the most faithful husband I could hope for" the former Spice Girl was quoted as saying in excerpts of the interview that the magazine released Monday. "He's always been faithful and nothing has changed at all. I can honestly say that I am really lucky to have him." Beckham's marriage appeared to be in trouble when a woman who used to work as a personal assistant for his former agent said she had an affair with the soccer star. She went on TV in England and sold her story to British tabloids. Reports of another alleged affair also surfaced. The Beckhams, who have two sons, Brooklyn and Romeo, have said their marriage is sound. The reports led to speculation that David Beckham would leave his Real Madrid soccer team and return to England with the Chelsea club since his wife was spending a lot of time at home. But Beckham recently decided to stay with the Spanish club for the three remaining years on his contract. Victoria has said she would move to Madrid with their two sons. In the Marie Claire interview, Victoria is asked whether her ties with the wealthy, world-famous soccer player have become a marriage of convenience or a business arrangement. "I couldn't live like that" she is quoted as saying. "I couldn't live a lie, and it would be unfair on our children. We are working on things together, but our marriage is absolutely not a business arrangement."

Simon Cowell said truth to Victoria Beckham

Simon Cowell has told Victoria Beckham to pack in her pop career (with all his usual diplomacy). Pop Idol’s Mr. Nasty was so determined to deliver his brutal verdict he even took the former Spice Girl out for lunch in Los Angeles recently to do the deed. "Well, I guess someone had to. Let’s face it, it was never going to be hubby David." I met up with Simon in his new palatial Los Angeles home, where he told me: “I saw Victoria when she was out here a while ago. I told her I thought she should concentrate on what she is good at and quit the pop. I doubt whether her music career will ever get off the ground again, unless she finds an absolutely brilliant song.” But savage Simon isn’t writing Mrs Beckham off altogether. He said: “If you ask me, her best asset is her eye for style. Fashion is definitely what she should be concentrating her energies on. I told her my advice would be to launch her own clothing range.” Simon also believes Victoria has an on-screen future ahead of her and is keen to sign her up for a joint TV project. He said: “I know we would work really well together and she comes across very well on television. That’s when you get to see the real Victoria Beckham.” Posh fans will be pleased to learn she obviously got her own back by having a pop at Simon’s dodgy high-waisted trousers. He told me: “You can rest assured when I discussed it with her, one of the first things she pointed out was my own lack of fashion sense. I guess I can learn a lot from Victoria as well.” It is an impressive reminder of how successful Simon has become since he became a huge star on the US version of Pop Idol, American Idol. He earns £8million a series. The final of the third is set to attract 45million viewers. It has made him one of the most famous faces in America but he is not sure if he’ll do any more and has pulled out of another UK Pop Idol. Simon said: “I worry there isn’t enough fresh talent at the moment for it to work. We need to wait for a bit to let a new generation come forward. Where is the new Madonna, Britney Spears, Bros or Take That going to come from?” Instead, Simon is looking forward to his new UK project - The X Factor, ITV’s new £10million talent search for wannabes of all ages. He said: “I think the whole thing will be exhausting. There are so many more people involved than in Pop Idol and as judges, we’re really putting ourselves on the line.” What for? A jolly good slapping perhaps... ? You can watch the final of American Idol on Friday night at 8.30pm on ITV2.

Victoria Beckham plan to launch in the US

Victoria Beckham is being relaunched in the US (because her manager reckons Brits HATE her). The former Spice Girl will spearhead a campaign by pop svengali Simon Fuller to get his record label 19 Recordings up and running in the States. He reckons she has a good chance of tapping the market on the back of the Beckham brand and her reputation as Posh Spice. Her new material, including the single My Love Is For Real, will be released in July under the name Posh Spice Victoria Beckham. A source at Fuller’s 19 Management told me: “Simon feels it is becoming more and more difficult to make the British music-buying public like Victoria. The reaction here is to hate her and her music. But she won’t take that sort of baggage to the US market." Simon is making huge inroads into America with US Idol. He has the Midas touch. His new label will release material by US Idol contestants and his British stable. Leading the charge is Victoria. Industry insiders see him as a bit of a hot shot there and they will take notice. "The Americans are becoming increasingly familiar with the Beckhams through David’s international footballing career and they obviously know about Victoria through the Spice Girls.” It will be Posh’s second trip to the US in less than 12 months to seek success. She went to New York late last year to record a hip-hop album with rap producer Damon Dash — the results were so dreadful it was canned. Simon, the Spice Girls and Pop Idol mastermind, is obsessed with carving out a career for Posh. Insiders at his London offices say he plays My Love Is For Real over and over and thinks it is her best material yet. He will also be launching Will Young, Rachel Stevens and Emma Bunton on the American market. But if I were them, with the possible exception of Will, I wouldn’t be booking my seat at the Grammys just yet. I wish I shared Simon’s optimism but America has more than its fair share of quality pop and I’ve a horrible feeling Posh will sink without a trace.

Posh Snubs England Wife's Euro 2004 Hotel

The People reports England's real-life footballers' wives will enjoy a $900,000 stay in a stunning luxury hotel during Euro 2004 - except for Victoria Beckham, as her soccer star husband David said she is just "too busy" to attend the tournament. The former Spice Girl will turn up only if her hubby's team reaches the final in Portugal - and even then she will make her own accommodation arrangements. A source said: "This is probably the first time so many partners have had the chance to be close to the squad for an entire tournament. England coach Sven Goran Eriksson hopes that letting the players have their loved ones nearby will help keep them out of trouble and improve team morale."

Posh's Life in Peruvian Slum Town

The Sunday Mirror reports Victoria Beckham has discovered how the other half live by visiting impoverished children in South America. The former Spice Girl went there to see how money raised by the public through Sports Relief is being spent. "Victoria literally lived the life of the villagers" a friend revealed. "It was an incredible experience for her. She found it amazingly moving."

Posh visits Peru

Victoria Beckham, the pop singer and former Spice Girl, spent two days 'living the life' of a destitute child rag-picker in Peru last week. Victoria, 30, who along with her football star husband David is thought to be worth around £65 million, flew to Lima, the capital of Peru, and spent 36 hours in the poverty-stricken Las Lomas de Carabayllo district on a project run by a British charity, Childhope UK. A spokesman for the charity confirmed she had visited the project, which cares for slum children forced to root through a massive municipal rubbish dump to earn a living, but said that it could give no details of the visit. A film of her stay in Peru will be broadcast as part of Comic Relief in July. Cynics will claim that Victoria was not solely motivated by a desire to help marginalised urban communities in Peru. She has been mocked recently over her flagging singing career and criticised about her role in her husband's alleged affair, which was blamed by many on his wife's decision not to move to Madrid with him. Last week it was revealed that the Beckhams and their two children will all live in the Spanish capital next season. However, Childhope said that it was very pleased that Victoria had visited. 'It is very useful when someone of Victoria Beckham's fame takes the trouble to draw attention to profound and complex problems,' a spokeswoman told The Observer. Victoria is understood to have stayed, under a false name, at a local hotel on her one night in Peru. Local reporters became aware of her presence and paparazzi chased her car to the airport when she left. "It was complete mayhem" one said. "We never have people like that coming here. They all think it is far too dangerous. The kids at the project were more surprised than anybody." The Las Lomas de Carabayllo district is on the outskirts of Lima about 20 miles from the city centre and comprises a series of small houses established on an old rubbish site. There is no electricity or running water and in the summer the temperature reaches 40C. Healthcare is non-existent and many of the children and adults suffer from stomach problems, bronchial infections, cuts and skin diseases. Few go to school and there is also a constant risk of violence with many gangs active. The district is so poor that people have to carefully guard their stores of rubbish.

Damon Dash wants to cast Posh in Comedy Film

The Mirror caught up with Damon Dash at the Cannes Film Festival where he revealed that despite their musical collaboration disaster, he'd like to work with former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham on a film project. "Victoria's a really good friend of mine and she's a great artist and great performer" Dash said. "I want to put her in a film, it would be so good. I know that the headlines would say that I'm gonna make her breakdance, or I'm gonna put her in a rap movie or something but I'd like to put her in something funny." Posh is due to arrive at Cannes on Friday for a D&G party. As for their musical collaboration, Dash said, "I am just the producer. I made the music but I am not her management company. I'd have made sure I put it out because that's what I do."

Victoria turns to Kaballah?

Troubled Posh looks like she has followed Madonna into the Kabbalah movement and now wears the red string bangle said by the cult to ward off evil spirits. Victoria, struggling to get over our revelations that her husband David Beckham had flings with two women, was wearing the bracelet when she arrived at a kids' party with sons Brooklyn, five, and Romeo, 19 months. And Romeo, who emerged from the party in Shepherd's Bush, London, with a tiger face-painting, was another clue to her conversion to the mystical offshoot of the Jewish faith. Posh, 30, has been influenced by Kabbalah's most famous devotees—Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie, whose son Rocco had his head shorn when he was three. The ex Spice Girl had dinner with them last week at their home in Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles—the city which is home to Kabbalah's main HQ. Posh's spokeswoman Caroline McAteer last night confirmed she was wearing the red Kabbalah wrist string—available for £20 a ball on the faith's web site—at the party. She said: "I've spoken to Victoria and she did say she was wearing a Kabbalah bracelet. But she doesn't want to give any explanation." Then another spokeswoman called back to say: "It's not because she has joined that religion. She was just making a fashion statement." Then she changed the story again, saying: "Maybe she is getting interested in Kabbalah." As Posh ponders the future Madonna has probably persuaded her to read the Zorah, the 23-volume Kabbalah bible. It claims to answer the main questions in life: Where did we come from? Who are we? Why are we on this earth? Something Posh's critics have been asking for years.

Victoria makes a Wifey Statement

As t-shirts reading "Mrs Timberlake" or "Mrs Kutcher" – in reference to heart-throbs Justin and Ashton – are sweeping the US, a real-life celebrity wife has joined in the trend. Having just jetted into LA, a pony-tailed Posh Spice was spotted sporting her very own "Mrs Beckham" vest along with a pin-striped blazer and glamorous shades. While its not known how much Victoria paid for the trendy tee, on-line retailers are selling the shirts – along with an array of "Mrs" bags, hooded sweatshirts and other items – starting at around $20. And if David Beckham's stylish wife, or any other trend-setter, feels like swapping husbands for the day, other names seen emblazoned around town include "Mrs Clooney", "Mrs Pitt" and "Mrs Farrell".
